Taranaki loose forward Kaylum Boshier bagged the major prize at the Taranaki Rugby awards on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old won the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls player of the year and players player awards at the annual event held at the Devon Hotel.

He follows in the footsteps of his older brother Lachlan, who won the same awards two seasons ago.

In a challenging year, where Taranaki only won three matches and missed a place in this weekend’s play-offs, Kaylum played in all 10 national provincial championship matches. While he only scored two tries all season, he will be remembered by his work rate around the field and at the tackle – something his brother was also notable for.

It’s been a busy year for 33-capped Taranaki player after he notched up nine matches for the Chiefs in Super Rugby.

In other Bulls awards, halfback Logan Crowley and Jared Proffit scooped up back and forward of the year respectively and also played in all competition matches this year.

Promising loose forward Michael Loft won the most promising player of the year award. The selection hints he will become a regular in the team’s future in his debut year for the province where the New Plymouth Old Boys representative played in seven matches for Taranaki.

Utility back Daniel Waite claimed the most points for the season with 56. He took over most of the kicking duties with last year’s played of the year and All Black Stephen Perofeta largely unavailable and regular first-five eighth Jayson Potroz injured.

The Taranaki Whio player of the year was loose forward Elle Johns. Brooke Neilson and Badinlee Munro-Smith won forward and back of the year respectively.

In the community game, one-capped Taranaki rep and New Plymouth Old Boys captain Jackson Morgan won Taranaki development player of the year.

Waite was the top club points scorer and Clifton pair Matty McKenzie and Tiana Davison won male and female club players of the year.

Championship winning coach Ben Siffleet of Tukapa bagged club coach of the year.

The event marks the end of the season for Taranaki Rugby. The union wasn’t able to share any details on playing signings for next year but will release more details in the coming weeks.
