Yorb Taranaki Men’s Premiership – Round 8
Only two matches were played in the Yorb Taranaki Premiership over the weekend with Peggy Gordon’s NP Rangers AFC moving to the top of the ladder after winning 5-0 away to Hawera Kitchens Ltd Hawera FC, Benjamin Parrett netted a brace for Rangers. TMT Building Ltd Moturoa AFC played out a 2-2 draw with NZ Forestry Peringa United which saw Peringa drop down to second on the table, Dean Wilson got both goals for Moturoa. The match between Premier Heating NPBHS 1st XI and Rampage Fitness FC Western was postponed as the two sides played each other in the Chatham Cup over the weekend.
Kate Sheppard Cup – Round 2
There were three Central Football Federation teams left in the Kate Sheppard Cup for Round 2 action with only one surviving. Palmerston North Marist FC from the Central League were too classy for Federation League side Havelock North Wanderers as Marist ran out 7-0 winners thanks to a hat trick from Mikaela Bouwmeester and a double from Lauren Owen. Federation League leaders Moturoa AFC had the difficult task of hosting Central League leaders Wellington United and it was United that advanced with a 4-0 win thanks to a triple strike from Jemma Robertson.
Lotto Central Federation League – Round 8
Saturday saw two matches take place in between a lot of cup action and in was Bayleys Palmerston North United that have come alive as they won 6-0 in the local derby against Watson Integrity PN Marist FC with Aaron Richardson plus Olly Ceci both getting braces for United. In the other match ALH Limited Gisborne Thistle travelled over to Hawke’s Bay to take on Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers and the game looked to be finishing as a goalless draw before both sides scored late. Golden Boot leader Jimmy Somerton put Thistle ahead in the 95th minute before Harry Anderson pegged it back straight away in the 96th minute as the sides drew 1-1. Shani’s Taradale AFC had the Bye in Round 8 as Rovers still lead the pack from Marist but the table is tight and with games in hand for some teams anyone of the five sides could be Champions in 2023.
Chatham Cup - Round 2
The Central Football Federation had five teams left in Round 2 of the Chatham Cup with two advancing into Round 3. Central League side Napier City Rovers AFC proved too strong for Capital Premier team Island Bay United AFC as Rovers won 4-2 thanks to a brace from Deri Corfe with Tsar Mitchener getting a consolation brace for Island Bay. FC Western Inc won the local Premiership level derby 4-1 against New Plymouth Boys High School at Webster Field with all the goals being shared around. Central League side Whanganui Athletic went down 2-1 to a late winner from fellow Central League team Petone FC in the 94th minute and in the final game Pacific Premiership side Napier Marist FC made a great account of themselves but just couldn’t find a way past Central League team North Wellington FC as Marist went down 1-0.
Women’s Federation Cup – Round 1
The Women’s Federation Cup continued on Sunday with the five remaining Round 1 fixtures completed. Quality Pumping Limited Port Hill United Women from Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1 travelled over to Wembley Park to take on Wanganui City FC Women’s 1sts from the Kelly Hiroa Premiership and it was Port Hill that took the win 3-1 to move onto the next round with the goal being shared around. Taradale AFC Women’s Reserves from the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1 knocked over Federation League side OneStaff PN Marist Women’s Reserves 2-0 at Taradale Park in the big upset from Round 1. Chillmax Takaro AFC X-Force from the Team Robinson Manawatu Women’s league proved too strong at home as they won 4-1 against Western Rangers Women’s who are from the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1. Braces from Paula Dimock and Aliza Snow helped Pak’n’Save Hawera FC Women’s defeat Taranaki Premiership rivals Eltham AFC Ladies 5-0. In the final game played Westshore Beach Inn Eskview Blues from Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1 won 14-0 over Kaitake FC Women from the Taranaki Premiership at the neutral venue of Skoglund Park in Manawatu. Four goals were scored by Jane Barnett, three from Briar Cloake plus doubles from Nancy Reed, Ailbhe Madden and Georgia Barnett. So these winners advance to the Quarter Finals on the 9th of July and will be joined ATLAS NP Rangers AFC Women’s Feds plus Excel Refrigeration Moturoa AFC who won last weekend with Chef’s Choice Whanganui Athletic Women’s 1st Team that had the Bye also progressing.
Lotto Men’s Federation Cup – Round 2
Pak n Save Tamatea Napier Marist from the Pacific Premiership won 2-1 over last year’s Champions Heavy Equipment Gisborne United 1sts from the Eastern League 1 thanks to both goals from Mustafa Can. In a Horizons Premiership local battle Advanced Electrical Palmerston North United FC got the home win 3-1 against teamlewis innovation Feilding United AFC Men’s 1sts with two goals being netted by Anthony Jones. A brace from Phillip King helped LongChill Takaro AFC Jokers from the Horizons Premiership win 6-1 away to Taranaki Men’s Division 1 one side Smith & Sons Eltham AFC. In the local Taranaki Premiership derby NZ Forestry Peringa United were too strong for Premier Heating NPBHS 1st XI as Peringa won 4-0 with Jayden Gally bagging a brace. The Federation League teams match between Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers and Watson Integrity PN Marist FC went to extra time and was won 2-1 by Rovers thanks to a 106th minute winner from Alex Davies. GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic Reserves from the Horizons Premiership got the 2-0 victory away over Peggy Gordon’s NP Rangers AFC from Taranaki Premiership at Yarrow Stadium and in the final match played TMT Building Ltd Moturoa AFC also won 2-0 away at Wanganui City FC 1sts from the Horizons Premiership. Pak’n’Save Hawera FC defaulted to Shani’s Taradale AFC in the eighth scheduled match.
Taranaki Men’s Championship – Round 9
Millwards Roofing FC Western won the Challenge Trophy match 7-3 over Peringa United Championship with Adam Lashin and Kayden Playle both getting doubles for Western plus the win leaves Western on top of the table. Two goals from James Bevington helped Cunningham Construction Kaitake FC win 3-1 away to Novotel Woodleigh FC and in the other Round 9 match Cross Country NPBHS 2nd XI won 5-2 away to Trafficr NP Rangers AFC with all the goals being shared around. Inglewood AFC Championship stay in second on the ladder after they won the Round 7 catch up game 6-1 when hosting Western Autos Moturoa AFC thanks to a brace from Izaak Ryan and a hat trick from Golden Boot leader Hamish Carruthers.
Taranaki Men’s Division 1 – Round 9
Shining Peak NP Rangers AFC Oddbodz defended the Challenge Trophy and moved up to second on the table in a 4-2 win over KP Joinery Waitara SC thanks to doubles from Ben Dowman and John Hight. A last minute penalty for CG Office Furniture FC Western Flaming Wolverines saw them just get past Smart Rehab & Physio Peringa United Ballers 3-2, the win keeps Western on top and Peringa have dropped to third. Wonder Minerals Kaponga SC secured a 6-2 win away at Elca Stainless Inglewood AFC with Brad Coad and Daniel Shepherd both getting braces for Kaponga. A Luke Snellgrove triple got Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers AFC the 3-0 home win against Smith & Sons Eltham AFC and Moturoa AFC Div1 had the Bye.
Taranaki Men’s Division 3 – Round 9
Inglewood AFC Div3 just did enough to hang onto the Challenge Trophy as they drew 1-1 with Paul Hamlin Builders Eltham AFC. Golden Boot leader Jaedyn Davis bagged a hat trick to help Rob Mason Electrical Group Woodleigh FC win away 4-2 at Waitara SC Div3 with the win keeping Woodleigh at the summit. Peringa United Socials have moved up into second after they secured a 6-1 away victory over Orchard Contracting Ltd Hawera FC with all the goals being shared around. In the final match Moturoa AFC Div3 won 2-1 in a close battle with Stratford AFC Reserves.
The Taranaki Women’s Premiership had a break for Women’s Federation Cup matches and Taranaki Men’s Division 2 also had a break weekend.
