The Taranaki Airs continued their late-season resurgence with a remarkable comeback victory over the Southland Sharks, ending the home side's 10-game winning streak with a 93-84 win in Invercargill on Thursday night.

Fresh off snapping their own seven-game losing streak last weekend, the Airs backed it up with arguably their best performance of the season, overturning a double-digit deficit to claim consecutive victories for the first time in months.

The Sharks looked in control for much of the opening half as Samuel Timmins dominated inside and Caleb Asberry found his range offensively.

Southland led 42-37 at halftime and stretched its advantage into double figures during the third quarter, appearing well on track for an 11th straight win.

However, the Airs produced a spirited second-half fightback.

American guard Aaron Cook Jr sparked the revival with several momentum-shifting defensive plays and transition baskets, while Brandon Stroud controlled the offence and James Moors provided a strong presence around the basket.

Key three-point shooting and improved defensive pressure helped Taranaki steadily chip away at the deficit before taking control in the closing stages.

The Airs' defensive intensity disrupted Southland's rhythm and forced the Sharks into difficult possessions as the visitors closed out a deserved nine-point victory.

The win was made even more impressive after Taranaki lost one of its key players, with Tane Samuel ejected after receiving two technical fouls during the match.

Stroud led the Airs with 21 points, seven assists and two steals and was rewarded with maximum MVP votes.

Marcel Jones recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Cook finished with 12 points, 10 assists and three steals.

Moors also made a significant contribution around the rim as the Airs dominated the second half.

For Southland, Asberry scored a game-high 25 points, while Keylan Boone added 20 points and 11 rebounds. Timmins contributed 11 points, 16 rebounds and four assists.

Earlier, the Airs also claimed the Rapid League contest, edging Southland 29-27.

Trailing entering the final quarter, Taranaki produced a late comeback before holding its nerve in the closing moments to complete a clean sweep of the night.

The Airs now head to Dunedin to face the Otago Nuggets on Saturday night looking to extend their winning run to three matches.
