A key figure in the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls coaching set-up is heading to England after accepting a role with rugby club Harlequins.
Brad Cooper will leave Taranaki after six years with the Taranaki Rugby Football Union and four seasons with the Bulls, taking up an opportunity in London with Harlequins.
Cooper was also an assistant coach for the championship-winning Hurricanes team during this year’s Super Rugby season.
The departure marks the end of a significant chapter for Cooper, who has played a major role in the development of players and the growth of the Bulls programme in recent years.
In a statement, Cooper said his time in Taranaki had been one of the most rewarding periods of his coaching career.
“After four incredible years with the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls and six with the TRFU, it’s hard to put into words what this team and community have meant to me,” he said.
“My time here has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my coaching journey. Over the past six years, I’ve grown tremendously both professionally and personally, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and relationships that have shaped me along the way.”
Cooper said working with players, staff and supporters had been a privilege and credited the people around the organisation for making his time in Taranaki special.
“What makes the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls truly special is the people. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside outstanding individuals who have challenged me to be better, supported me through the highs and lows, and made every day enjoyable.”
He said while leaving was difficult, he would always have a strong connection to the province.
“Taranaki has become much more than just a team to me – it has become a place filled with friendships, memories, and experiences that have left a lasting mark on both my career and my life.”
The TRFU thanked Cooper for his contribution to the organisation, saying the standards he set, the players he helped develop and the culture he helped build would continue to influence the programme for years to come.
Head coach Jarrod Hoeata had already confirmed Heiden Bedwell-Curtis and Michael Carr as his assistant coaches for the 2026 campaign.
