Julian key to Dixon's wins

While Kiwi Scott Dixon is a household name to IndyCar racing fans, his success is due in no small part to the expertise of another Kiwi, his chief mechanic. And not just any Kiwi, he’s a Taranaki Kiwi.

Blair Julian, a Spotswood College man through and through, comes from the Julian family of speedway fame and while his own driving days were short, his career as a mechanic has been long and highly successful.

Julian and his brother Anton moved to Indianapolis in 1997 and got crew jobs at Stefan Johansson Racing, at that time a news Indy Lights team whose founder was a former F! driver from Sweden.

In 2017 RNZ interviewed Julian in the United States and made the observation that “in many ways, the 42-year-old Taranaki mechanic is the unassuming, unknown face behind Dixon’s success”.
